Welcome to this special holiday weekend Sabbath! After the Sabbath School classes have finished, we will have an outdoor worship experience in the Evergreen Chapel in the woods behind the fellowship hall. Pastor Eddie Heinrich, youth ministries director for the Northern California Conference, is our guest speaker today. Pastor Heinrich has just concluded a very successful summer camping program at Leoni Meadows. We are grateful that he has come to be with us today.
The Nominating Committee report is included in the bulletin today for its first reading. We are thankful for the large number of people who have accepted responsibilities for the coming officer year, which begins October 1. If there are any mistakes or if you have any concerns, you are welcome to contact the committee chairperson, Norma Andersen, at 477-1417. The second reading will be voted on next Sabbath.
Your church mailbox has a schedule for 2010-2011 potlucks and luncheons. You will notice that potlucks are scheduled for the first Sabbath of the month, and luncheons by one of the teams on the third Sabbath. The remaining Sabbaths each month are for “home hospitality.” With this variety of opportunities, we can enjoy good food and wonderful fellowship with our guests and church family throughout the calendar year. You will want to keep this schedule posted at home, or enter the dates on your own calendar.
You have heard about the coal miners in Chile who are trapped underground, and may have to stay there for months. Now the “rest of the story”: A supply shaft is sending food and water to the miners. The local Adventist pastor persuaded officials to send Bibles through the shaft. Each Bible is personalized with the miner’s name and identifies specific scriptures to encourage them. The miners sent back their thanks for the Bibles and for the prayers for their safe return.
