God's Voice Speaks to a Young Heart
.

My 7 year old granddaughter, Abby, and I attended the Baby Shower for the Chaffee's new baby the other evening. As the evening progressed, I noticed that Marilyn had started to open the gifts. It appeared that no one was keeping presents in front of Marilyn, once the original set was opened. So I went over and began passing them through a narrow space between the sofa and an end table. Concerned that I might knock something over as I moved through the narrow space, I asked Abby to stand over by Marilyn and let me hand gifts to her. She did and was quietly facilitating the process.

Within a few minutes, a very cute little girl decided to help Abby. I watched Abby to see if she would resist the 'help.' With only slight resistance, she adjusted to the new situation and continued to assist as she could.

On the way home, I asked Abby if she was bothered by the 'help' that she received. "No," she replied. She made some comments about the evening, then said, "I heard a little voice inside of me telling me to help her."

As I was putting her to bed, I asked her if she had ever been aware of God's voice speaking to her like that before. She said, "No."

"That was the Holy Spirit encouraging you to do what was right. And you obeyed," I said.

It was one of those meaningful moments in the training of a child.
